Matangi plays works by Simeon ten Holt
From January 20, Matangi will play works by Simeon ten Holt in two different programs. It is 100 years ago that the Dutch composer (deceased in 2012) was born. In the context of this centenary, the work of Simeon ten Holt is central in various Dutch concert halls.
Ten Holt's blessing
First violinist Maria-Paula Majoor told NPO Radio Klassiek how Matangi received the blessing of the master himself to arrange his beautiful piano music for the string quartet.

On Friday 20 January and Sunday 22 January, Matangi, supplemented by 3 guest players, will play Palimpsest by Simeon ten Holt, respectively in the Nieuwe Kerk in The Hague and the Amstelkerk in Amsterdam. Palimpsest goes back to a Greek recycled parchment scroll where, after removal of the original text, the old text remains legible. Ten Holt wrote this work in 1993 for 7 string players. Matangi brings this program in their Matangi Moments series. Matangi will also perform Palimpsest during the Simeon ten Holt Dag in TivoliVredenburg this Sunday, January 29.

Canto Ostinato Strings Attached
From February 9, Matangi will continue the Canto Ostinato Strings Attached tour along a number of Dutch concert halls. The original tour was interrupted in 2021 by corona. The reason for this series was the 2020 quartet's successful CD of the same name. Simeon ten Holt gave his approval to Matangi shortly before his death for the arrangement of the Canto Ostinato for strings. As is well known, the composer was not always happy with the many non-piano arrangements of the Canto Ostinato. In Canto Ostinato Strings Attached, Matangi collaborates with artist Gerard de Bruyne, who draws live on the music of Ten Holt during the concerts on an audiovisual work of art.
