Matangi Moments: Mozartiade
Matangi Moments ranges from timeless classical masterpieces to surprising collaborations that transcend musical genres. At the heart of this programme are Mozart’s irresistible lightness and playfulness, and the remarkable ways in which his music has continued to inspire and resonate through the centuries.
YOUNG TALENT
Matangi places great importance on talent development. That’s why we are proud of our annual collaboration with the Prinses Christina Concours. Each year, we present the Matangi Prize to an exceptional musical talent—an honor that, in this edition of Matangi Moments, is awarded to violaplayer Charlotte Van Looveren.
Mozart’s String Quintet in G minor, K. 516, is a masterpiece that reveals the composer’s deeper, more melancholic side. It is one of his most intense and dramatic chamber works, written during a period marked by personal and financial hardship. The addition of a second viola gives the quintet a warm, dark sonority and an almost symphonic depth. Despite its sombre undertones, the work ultimately radiates the lightness and beauty that make Mozart so unique.
